In practice that means: a skip-to-content link ahead of everything else on the page; visible focus outlines on every interactive element, not just the ones a browser happens to default to; motion that turns off entirely if your system asks for reduced motion; icons that are either decorative and hidden from screen readers or labelled when they carry meaning, so an external link says so instead of only implying it with an icon; and a mobile menu that manages its own expanded state for assistive technology, not just visually.
This site has been through multiple WCAG audits, automated and manual - the most recent one swept every page and five interactive states (mobile nav open, a panel like this one open, a form error, a case study's metrics) and found three real issues, since fixed: an unlabelled button, a focus outline invisible on dark headers, and a touch target a few pixels under the 24px minimum.
My working philosophy is that there is always something wrong - an audit tells you what it was built to look for, not that nothing else is there. If something doesn't work with a screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, or at 200% zoom, that's the next thing to find. Email me at luis@berumendesign.com and I'll fix it.
Much of this site's code was built with AI assistance - Claude Code did a substantial share of the implementation, from page layout down to this panel. Where something looks generative rather than photographed - the hex-and-pentagon hero graphics, for instance - that's code computing a Voronoi mesh at build time, not a diffusion model drawing an image.
The project photography, product screenshots, and diagrams inside the case studies are real artifacts from the work itself, not AI-generated.
None of this runs without other people's work, freely given. Ionicons, the interface icon set, comes from the Ionic team, MIT licensed.
Astro and Tailwind CSS are what this whole site is built on. d3-delaunay, by Mike Bostock and Observable, computes the generative hero graphics. The unified, remark, and rehype ecosystem turns the case-study markdown into the pages you're reading.
